How much does filing bankruptcy cost?

There are several chapters in the bankruptcy code.  The entire code was written with the intent to help those in financial hardship obtain relief from their burdensome debts and obtain a fresh financial start.  Most of the time, individuals are eligible to file a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.  A Chapter 13 bankruptcy is a bit more expensive as far as attorneys fees go, but you are able to pay less up front before you file in a Chapter 13.

Most of the attorneys fees in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy go into the 60 month Chapter 13 Plan.  So, it is very simple to pay the attorneys fees in a Chapter 13.

In a Chapter 7 bankruptcy, you do have to pay the fees up front, but they are less than you would have to pay in a Chapter 13.  In either Chapter, once you stop making the payments towards the unsecured creditors that are charging you ridiculous interest rates, typically our clients are able to easily pay the attorneys fees.

The filing fee for Chapter 7 is $299, and for a 13 it is $274.  Under either Chapter there is a pre-bankruptcy credit counseling class and a debtors education course that you take after you file.

Bankruptcy is very affordable, and gives unfortunate debtors a fresh financial start.
